But nothing can prepare for the aliens\u2019 advanced and unprecedented force.<\/p>\n<div id=\"twenty20-2\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 100% !important; clear: both;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-2 \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CAN_020_0110_showreelStills_v3.1001.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Before image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CAN_020_0110_showreelStills_v3.1003.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"After image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n<h4>Moon-based modelling<\/h4>\n<p>The lunar\u00a0scene begins with the arrival of a new weapon to the Earth Space Defence Station, and finishes\u00a0with\u00a0the alien mother ship\u00a0destroying most of the moon\u00a0on its way to Earth.<\/p>\n<p>MPC built the moon, which includes two main lunar environments, the Sea of Tranquility\u00a0and the Van de Graff Crater. For this work, the team researched Nasa photography, and used production concept art and Hubble references for views from the Moon to Earth.<\/p>\n<div id=\"twenty20-3\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 600%;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-3 \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CR2_111_0170_showreelStills_v1_v3.1001.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Before image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CR2_111_0170_showreelStills_v1_v3.1003.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"After image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n<p>The team studied the properties of the moon\u2019s surface to ensure the simulations were geologically representative. The actors were on wires to simulate the differences in gravity. As the destruction starts we switch to full CG digi-doubles of the characters in their space suits, created using detailed scans and photographs of the actors.<\/p>\n<div id=\"twenty20-7\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 100% !important; clear: both;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-7 \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CAN_020_0250_showreelStills_v001_v5.1001.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Before image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/O_CAN_020_0250_showreelStills_v001_v5.1003.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"After image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Ultimately the Moon Cannon proves no defence against the huge alien cannon and the Mothership\u2019s Beam demolishes the Moon base with its green laser, synonymous with the first movie.
