This year the Festival, which runs from 16 \u2013 27 June, will host twenty-two World premieres, and twelve International premieres.<\/p>\n<p>The Closing Night Gala will be the World premiere of THIRD STAR, a British tragi-comic buddy film by newcomer Hattie Dalton, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (FOUR LIONS), Tom Burke (DONKEY PUNCH), JJ Feild (CENTURION) and Adam Robertson. The EIFF also looks forward to welcoming back the director of the previously announced Opening Gala, THE ILLUSIONIST, Sylvain Chomet as well as three of its four Patrons, Sir Sean Connery, Tilda Swinton and Seamus McGarvey.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival will showcase one hundred and thirty three features from thirty four countries, including nine European premieres and sixty-three UK premieres in addition to the World and International premieres. Highlights include: Ryan Piers Williams\u2019 THE DRY LAND; Werner Herzog\u2019s MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE?; Floria Sigismondi\u2019s THE RUNAWAYS and Chris D\u2019Arienzo\u2019s BARRY MUNDAY in the Gala section; Rafi Pitts\u2019 THE HUNTER, Koji Wakamatsu\u2019s CATERPILLAR and Academy Award\u00ae winning THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES by Juan Jos\u00e9 Campanella in the Directors\u2019 Showcase, with AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE by Steven Soderbergh in the Document section.<\/p>\n<p>British Galas competing for the UK Film Council-sponsored Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature include seven World premieres: Paul Andrew Williams\u2019 CHERRY TREE LANE; HUGE by Ben Miller; Edward McHenry &amp; Rory McHenry\u2019s JACKBOOTS ON WHITEHALL; Nick Moran\u2019s THE KID; Viv Fongenie\u2019s OLLIE KEPLER\u2019S EXPANDING PURPLE WORLD; PELICAN BLOOD by Karl Golden and SOULBOY by Shimmy Marcus. British Galas also compete for the PPG Award for Best Performance in a British Feature Film, which also includes: Ashley Horner\u2019s brilliantlove; MR NICE by Bernard Rose and Nick Whitfield\u2019s SKELETONS.<\/p>\n<p>Galas will also include: Aaron Schneider\u2019s GET LOW; Beno\u00eet P\u00e9tr\u00e9\u2019s THELMA, LOUISE AND CHANTAL; Bobcat Goldthwait\u2019s WORLD\u2019S GREATEST DAD; THE EXTRA MAN by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini; THE GOOD HEART by Dagur Kari; Bart Freundlich\u2019s THE REBOUND; Pascal Chaumeil\u2019s HEARTBREAKER and previously announced TOY STORY 3 by Lee Unkrich. All films in the Gala and British Gala sections, as well as the Opening and Closing Galas, are eligible for the Standard Life Audience Award.<\/p>\n<p>EIFF Artistic Director Hannah McGill commented: &#8216;\u201dWe&#8217;re tremendously excited about the programme this year and especially about how many of our titles are brand new to the world festival circuit and the international industry. We&#8217;re looking forward to welcoming an amazing array of guests, and to celebrating EIFF&#8217;s 64th year by spreading our excitement about current and classic cinema to our loyal attenders and to new audiences alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Col Spector\u2019s HONEYMOONER, Josh Hyde\u2019s POSTALES, Morag McKinnon\u2019s DONKEYS and Nelofar Pazira\u2019s ACT OF DISHONOUR are the four World premieres in Rosebud, the showcase of films by first and second time directors which embody the EIFF\u2019s spirit of discovery. OBSELIDIA by Diane Bell, Debra Granik\u2019s WINTER\u2019S BONE, Patrick Hughes\u2019 RED HILL and FRONTIER BLUES by Babk Jalali are also amongst the thirty-eight Rosebud titles. All Rosebud films are eligible for the New Directors Award.<\/p>\n<p>All features originating outside of the UK, receiving their World or International premieres at the EIFF will be eligible for the Projector.tv Best International Feature Award. Films include the World premieres of Ryan Denmark\u2019s CHASE THE SLUT, Rona Mark\u2019s THE CRAB, Zach Clark\u2019s VACATION! (all EIFF alumni returning to the Festival); as well as Tomasz Thomson\u2019s SNOWMAN\u2019S LAND, and THE RED MACHINE by Stephanie Argy and Alec Boehm.<\/p>\n<p>The Director\u2019s Showcase, presenting work from the established auteurs of our time, includes Suzana Amaral\u2019s HOTEL ATLANTICO, James Huth\u2019s LUCKY LUKE, Alain Gsponer\u2019s MY WORDS, MY LIES \u2013 MY LOVE (LILA LILA), Jo Baier\u2019s HENRY OF NAVARRE (HENRI 4) and 22 BULLETS (L\u2019IMMORTEL) by Richard Berry.<\/p>\n<p>Upholding the EIFF\u2019s documentary heritage, this year\u2019s Document section presents the World premieres of SUPERHERO ME by Steve Sale, OUT OF THE ASHES by Lucy Martens, Timothy Albone and Leslie Knott; and Jason Massot\u2019s ROAD TO LAS VEGAS all from the UK, and GIRL WITH BLACK BALLOONS by Corinne van der Borch. Nicolas Philibert (ETRE ET AVOIR) returns to the EIFF with N\u00c9NETTE, and also returning is Laura Poitras (MY COUNTRY, MY COUNTRY) with THE OATH. Other documentaries in the eighteen strong section include Mark Landsman\u2019s THUNDER SOUL; THE PEOPLE VS GEORGE LUCAS by Alexandre O Philippe and Jeffrey Blitz\u2019s LUCKY.<\/p>\n<p>Cult late-night sections, Night Moves and Under the Radar boast a collective six World premieres including Miles Watt\u2019s CRIMEFIGHTERS and Wayne Thallon\u2019s A SPANKING IN PARADISE both from the UK, and THE LAST RITES OF RANSOM PRIDE by Tiller Russell. Other titles include MONSTERS by Gareth Edwards, Colm McCarthy\u2019s OUTCAST and John Michael McCarthy\u2019s CIGARETTE GIRL.<\/p>\n<p>Special Screenings and Festival Events throughout the EIFF also include the premiere of the first audio horror film HP LOVECRAFT\u2019S THE DUNWICH HORROR by Colin Edwards, and the return of Cinematic TV presents a sneak peak of HBO\u2019s BORED TO DEATH. EIFF Patron Tilda Swinton and filmmaker Mark Cousins also announce their new initiative 8 \u00bd FOUNDATION with a special event and screening for kids of all ages (including grown up ones).<\/p>\n<p>2010\u2019s Retrospective section AFTER THE WAVE: LOST AND FORGOTTEN BRITISH CINEMA 1967 &#8211; 1979 presents a cinematic era that is virtually forgotten, including three films from The Children\u2019s Film Foundation: GLITTERBALL by Harley Cokliss; Peter Smith\u2019s WHAT NEXT? and a new print of Powell &amp; Pressburger\u2019s THE BOY WHO TURNED YELLOW. Ken Russell\u2019s SAVAGE MESSIAH, Peter Watkins\u2019 PRIVILEGE, and Kevin Billington\u2019s THE RISE AND RISE OF MICHAEL RIMMER will screen along with a rare print of John Mackenzie\u2019s MADE. Celebrating the era, filmmakers Stephen Frears (GUMSHOE), Horace Ove (PRESSURE), Mike Hodges (PULP) and Barney Platt-Mills (PRIVATE ROAD) will be in Edinburgh to present their retrospective films and take part in the Special Event AFTER THE WAVE: DISCUSSION EVENT. Stephen Frears will also be seen in cameo roles along with Wim Wenders, Alan Bennett, John Boorman and \u2018star\u2019 Charles Gormley in Maurice Hatton\u2019s LONG SHOT, filmed at EIFF 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Other Special Events include MAKING OF THE ILLUSIONIST WITH SYLVAIN CHOMET, performance event 50 LETTERS, and a night of literary, musical and filmic stimulation at IRREGULAR. The Festival&#8217;s keynote onstage interview, in association with Variety, will be with Academy Award\u00ae winning producer Graham King, who will also be presented at EIFF with the 2010 Variety UK Achievement in Film Award. The Michael Powell Jury is to be chaired by Sir Patrick Stewart, also the subject of the BAFTA IN SCOTLAND INTERVIEW.
