{"id":676,"date":"2009-06-01T11:48:58","date_gmt":"2009-06-01T11:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.firedbydesign.com\/?p=676"},"modified":"2011-09-19T10:09:30","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T09:09:30","slug":"bottled-sunshine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firedbydesign.com\/?p=676","title":{"rendered":"Bottled sunshine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stardust and DDB Chicago have given a taste of summer to Bud Light Lime in three stylish spots<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-688 lazyload\" title=\"Bud Light Lime\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/fbdimg\/HLIC\/b34b61de26c837b90ebef47aa799d48e.jpg?resize=400%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Stardust and DDB Chicago bottled sunshine\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/300;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The spots feature a seamless blending of high-speed cinematography of Bud Light Lime pouring into a bottle, with many other live-action elements united by artful editing, compositing and CGI design.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Summer State of Mind<\/em> spots, comprising one 30-second and two 15 second design-intensive broadcast spots, were created by Stardust under the direction of creative director Brad Tucker, in association with DDB Chicago senior vice-president and group creative director Mark Gross, creative director \/art director Chris Roe, creative director \/copywriter Chuck Rachford, and executive producer Will St. Clair.<\/p>\n<p>Working with St. Clair, Roe, line producer Winston Smith, director of photography Jim Matlosz and other crew-members, Tucker spent two days shooting at LA\u2019s Quixote Studios. The talent was shot against a green screen at 3k, using the Red One digital cinema camera.\u00a0 \u201cWe shot at 48fps so we could have a slight slow-motion feeling, the green screen was lit on its own, and the talent was backlit to achieve the sunset feeling,\u201d Tucker explained.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-682 lazyload\" title=\"bll-s-2m\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/fbdimg\/HLIC\/ff67b7069cc80384338679f6277e75d8.jpg?resize=400%2C267&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"bll-s-2m\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/300;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tucker and Matlosz also used the Phantom HD high-speed digital camera to photograph the fluid against a medium grey background. \u201cMany special rigs were used to capture the fluid in its one or two seconds of glory,\u201d he continued.\u00a0 \u201cIt was shot at 750fps at 2k.\u00a0 We had to rig the bottle so we could capture fluid shooting up the sides and filling the bottle, and many splash elements that could all be composited together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stardust editors Tony Hall and Michael Merkwan used Final Cut Pro to edit the spots together with the low-res reference files from the Red camera, while the company\u2019s VFX artists started compositing the low-res proxies of the Phantom footage.\u00a0 Rubber Monkey Software\u2019s Monkey Extract was used to export TIFF sequences from the final RED EDL for seamless integration into Adobe After Effects.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-681 lazyload\" title=\"bls-04m\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firedbydesign.com\/fbdimg\/HLIC\/4bafcd6d9182f287ca55d8cf57c05afa.jpg?resize=400%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"bls-04m\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/300;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stardust\u2019s artists used Maya for each of the project\u2019s 3D elements, with Maya Paint Effects used for making the trees. \u201cThe 3D cameras were transferred from Maya to After Effects to keep all the objects revolving around the bottle,\u201d said Tucker.\u00a0 \u201cWe used difference mattes to separate the fluids from the backgrounds, and lighting effects and particles played a big role in blending everything together.\u00a0 In addition to marrying the green screen footage to our background plates of the sunset scenes, we also keyed and composited the green screen footage into the bottle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-687 lazyload\"
